What requirements for the BSA Aviation badge will be covered?

Scouts who participate in the BSA Aviation merit badge will cover requirements for the merit badge during this program. Specifically, the Scouts will report early to attend a BSA specific ground school followed by activities that they can select from during Aviation Day to complete their merit badge. Additionally, this is a BSA High Adventure event and Scouts must be 13+ years old AND be at least First Class Rank. There will be no exceptions. .

5. What requirements for the Girl Scouts of Western Washington Journey Badge will be covered?

Scouts who participate in Aviation Day and complete their Activities Passport will cover requirements for the Journey Badge..

Can adults attend?

YES! The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be allowed two chaperones per troop. All other youth groups will be allowed a 10:1 ratio of youth to adults. We will set up a chaperone waiting area in the Flight Operations building. Additionally, the chaperone passes will be transferrable allowing for chaperones/parents to switch off and to observe Aviation Day events.

What if I’m not a chaperone?

For those adults that are not chaperones, you can wait in the parking lot at the check-in building or at the many restaurants around the airport or the Southcenter Mall.

Why are you limiting participants and adults?

We will be having over 600 youth participants attending, chaperones and volunteers all confined in a limited area. We limited the numbers to allow for a positive experience for the youth and not be rushed.

What happens if I do not show up?

We understand unexpected events come up. However, if you do not show up you will not allow another participant to come to Aviation Day. We have a very large stand-by list for youth who want to attend. If you do not show up, it will reflect negatively on your group and they will loose participant slots in subsequent years.

That’s harsh don’t you think?

No, given that in years past, we have had many participants not show up and their slots could have gone to other participants.

Will stand-by youths be able to participate?

This will depend on youth groups not filling their slots or participants cancelling prior to the day of the event.

How does the registration work?

Each participating group will be allotted a certain number of slots with a unique code. You’ll contact your group’s registration coordinator to sign up. For BSA, you will need to provide your BSA ID number and bring your BSA ID card at check in to receive your Aviation Day credentials that will allow your to participate in Aviation Day events.

What if my youth group does not have ID cards?

The ID cards are required for Boy Scouts of America only.

Does one adult try to register a group from a troop/group or does each individual parent of a Scout/youth need to register?

Each group will need to register their youth and parent participants through their sponsoring organization. (i.e.: Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, OBAP, 99’s, WIA, etc.)

What if I register after all the available openings are filled?

We will place you in a stand-by list list and will contact you if someone cancels.

Will you be updating the release form? Currently, it has 2011, as the year of the event.
Each participant will need to fill out a release form in order to participate.
